UPDATE: All the money in this program has been used.
Floridians shopping for household appliances, here’s an offer from your state government.
Save energy and save money.
Florida is offering a rebate for specific Energy Star-rated appliances bought between April 16 and April 25. Appliances eligible for the 20 percent rebate are tank-less gas water heaters, clothes washers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers and room air-conditioners.
The mail-in rebates are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and some restrictions apply. For most types of eligible appliances, the rules require the purchase be made at a retail store in Florida. You can register at the Florida energy rebate website starting at 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, but you can read more about the program there now.
The energy-saving benefits of appliances that display an Energy Star rating are in keeping with the Earth Day theme.
Participants also may receive another $75 for recycling their old appliance.
