Many have complained that Broward offers few free and cheap activities for families. But we found 10 gems that are either free or extremely low-cost. Consider oceanfront paradises, nature preserves and a horse farm now in a county park – all to enjoy for free.

Free Film For Kids In Fort Lauderdale

The FAB! Films for Kids program in Fort Lauderdale is offering a free film about impressionist art.
The movie, Light and Shodow, is set to be screened  10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7.  After that, youngsters may use their own artistic talents to paint pictures of the Cinema Paradiso theater, to be displayed in the lobby.

Free kids’ workshop at Home Depot

On the first Saturday of the month, The Home Depot hosts a free kids workshop from 9 a.m. to noon for children 5 to 12.
The project for Saturday, Aug. 7, is a school bus pencil holder. Kids also will receive an orange apron and an achievement pin.

Kids eat free at Ikea through Aug. 15

Kids eat free at IKEA through Aug 15, with no adult purchase required.
Kids can choose any three kid-size items  (options include five meatballs, macaroni and cheese, PB&J, yogurt, chocolate milk and cookies).

The YMCA in Weston is offering a free SPLASH day event to promote water safety.
The program, designed for youngsters ages 3 to 5 and their parents,  features information, demonstrations and activities related to swim safety, personal safety and boating safety.  Youngster may also be interested in the fire trucks at the event.

$3 Nature Tots Program At Parks

The Nature Tots program features activities for youngsters  at a relatively inexpensive fee.
The Thursday-morning programs, July 8 and July 22 at 10 a.m., are for kids ages 2 to 4. The fee is  $3.
The activities might include stories, art projects and nature walks.

Summer deal: Moms get in free

Moms Miami has a Summer Fun Pass coupon deal that gets moms in free to a number of attractions and events in Broward and Miami-Dade this summer with two paid admissions. The deal is good Mondays through Fridays and can’t be combined with other deals.
