For a bit of savings on apparel, footwear and school supplies, Florida offers a tax-free shopping weekend in which eligible items are exempt from the usual six percent state sales tax.
The tax-free weekend is August 2 to August 6. It’s perfect for back-to-school shopping, and it’s also valid on eligible items bought for babies and adults, ie you don’t need to be a student to enjoy the savings.
Eligible merchandise includes
- select school supplies $15 or less per item. A few examples of tax-exempt items include , pens, notebooks, erasers, rulers, scissorsĀ and protractors
- clothing, footwear and some accessories $60 or less per item.Examples of tax-exempt apparel and accessories include purses, raincoats, socks, sweaters, ties, shirts, and skirts
- computers and certain accessories selling for $1,000 or less per item for personal or non-commercial use
