Deerfield Island is not open until further notice
Deerfield Island is a natural area on the Intracoastal Waterway in north Broward that's accessible by boat. You can ride free on a water shuttle to Deerfield Island Natural Area, weather permitting, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The free boat shuttle service usually runs from a dock at Sullivan Park, 1701 Riverview Road, Deerfield Beach, at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Please phone 954-357-5100 for verification the day you are interested in.
Activities at the island park include nature walks and picnicking. Picnic tables and barbecues are on site.
The island provides a habitat for raccoons, squirrels, armadillos, and gopher tortoises, as well as a variety of migratory and indigenous birds. The island was designated an Urban Wilderness Area and a Gopher Tortoise Refuge, according to a Broward Parks & Recreation representative.
The park also includes a platform overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway, a boardwalk and a butterfly garden.
