Hanukkah events & displays in Broward

Happy Hanukkah! Broward County organizations have planned a number of public events to celebrate Hanukkah this year. The Jewish holiday falls on different days every year in the English calendar. In 2023, Hanukkah will be observed from sundown on Thursday, Dec. 7, through Friday evening, Dec. 15.

Hanukkah celebrates both a military victory and a miracle. The holiday commemorates the victory of the Maccabees, a Jewish army, over the Syrian-Greek army, which enabled them to reclaim and rededicate the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. But, there was only enough oil to keep the candles lighted for one day. But, the light lasted for eight days, which is why Hanukkah is celebrated for eight days.
 
The menorah, with eight candles plus one for lighting, is a major symbol of Hanukkah, and Broward cities and organizations plan menorah-lighting celebrations to commemorate Hanukkah.

Dania Beach

Lighting a Hanukkah menorah is part of Light Up Dania festivities 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. November 30 and entry is free.

The event includes entertainment, free ice skating with skates provided and a Kids Zone.  The event is at Dania City Hall, 100 W. Dania Beach Blvd., Dania Beach.

Tamarac

Holiday lighting in Tamarac includes a menorah. The Light Up event in 2023 is 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. November 30, and entry is free. The event is at Caporella Park, 5200 Prospect Road.

Fort Lauderdale

Menorah lighting in Fort Lauderdale with music is 5:30 p.m. December 7 at Las Olas Oceanside Park, 3000 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.

Parking is usually $4 an hour at Las Olas Garage at 200 Las Olas Circle, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. The event is free.

Fort Lauderdale

Menorah car parade  6 p.m. – 8 p.m. December 7, presented by Las Olas Chabad on Las Olas Boulevard east to A1a, to Sunrise Boulevard, Andrews Avenue, Las Olas Double decker $36 per person. , please return to this feature for information on this event. 

Fort Lauderdale

Chanukah at Galleria 6:30 p.m. December 9 with latkes, donuts and entertainment at 2414 East Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Entertainment features Noam Agami. Entry is free.

Fort Lauderdale

Grand Chanukah Festival 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. December 10  at Las Olas Chabad, 1302 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Discount opportunity, entry for the first 180 families is $18 per family.  Regular price for kids  rides is $20. The event includes face painting, entertainment and a petting zoo. Other features include latkes, rides and bounce houses. Fort Lauderdale. Parking is free.

Hollywood

Menorah Lighting and Hanukkah festivities 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. December 10 at ArtsPark at U.S. One and Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood

Fort Lauderdale

An ice menorah is featured at a Chanukah event 5:30 p.m. December 11 and entry is free. The event is at Tunnel Top Park at US 1 and Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Entertainment is by Benji Rafaeli.

Fort Lauderdale

Boat Menorah Parade 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. December 12, presented by Las Olas Chabad. Free to join with your own boat, or ride on a yacht for $180 per person. The event is on the New River in Fort Lauderdale

Lauderhill

Menorah lighting is 5:30 p.m. December 13 in Lauderhill. The venue is Lauderhill City Hall, 5581 W. Oakland Park Blvd.  Refreshments include donuts and pizza. RSVP to reserve pizza, 954-687-2523
