Our lives have been totally upended in the last few weeks, and that includes the mission of Fort Lauderdale on the Cheap.
In normal times, we publish news of deals, discounts and free events in Fort Lauderdale and throughout Broward County. With the requirement that we mostly stay at home to be safe, we have temporarily reinvented our websites to provide you with the information you need now.
You’ll find news about where to buy food, or find free food distribution, restaurant deals, financial help and things to do while you are at home — the same kind of information we publish in normal times, but tailored for today’s circumstances.
The best way to keep up with all the latest information is to subscribe to our free daily newsletter.
To make it easier to find what you need, we’ve created several new features:
- Crisis resource page. This contains all of our resources for surviving in these times, in an easy-to-use format. Find the Broward Crisis Resources page here.
- Virtual events calendar. Local performers and cultural organizations are moving their performances online, so you can stream them at home. We have created a virtual calendar of events to help you find those performances. Find our Virtual Calendar here. You can submit your virtual event here or email all the information to news@fortlauderdaleonthecheap.com
- Calendar of essential events. This calendar includes such things as senior shopping days, free food distributions and other services for which you need to venture out of your home. If you are planning such an event, email us at news@fortlauderdaleonthecheap.com
Our parent website, Living on the Cheap, is also focused on providing everything people need to know during the crisis, from how to make your own cloth mask to where you can order food online to how to find free streaming entertainment. Be sure to check there daily or, to make sure you don’t miss anything, subscribe to the Living on the Cheap free daily newsletter.
This is a hard time financially for many in our community, and that includes us. Living on the Cheap and Fort Lauderdale on the Cheap are part of a small publishing business based in South Florida, and we are suffering the same income drop others are experiencing. We started these websites in 2009, during the last recession, and we are dedicated to helping readers, businesses, cultural institutions and artists during this time.
We want to be a useful resource for our community. If you have news to share, or if there is something you’d like to know, please email us your thoughts at news@fortlauderdaleonthecheap.com.
We’re all in this together.
