We’re always trying to find a way to dine out on the cheap. One option is Local Dines South Florida  (formerly South Florida Dines), which sells discount dining certificates to more than 350 restaurants in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach County.

The usual discount is 50% off. But through 11 p.m. Jan. 31, up to 70% off Blue Plate Specials on selected Broward restaurants.

Each restaurant sells a limited number of certificates each month, and there is a limit on how many any one patron can by. Check out the current offerings here.

weekendbroward

One of the most fun things to do is listen to live music. But it’s not always easy to find out where the bands you want to hear are playing.

Weekend Broward is a website that will help you find live music events, most with no cover charge. The site covers music in Broward, Boca Raton and Delray Beach. Weekend Broward has a calendar of live music, a list of the best Fort Lauderdale bars for bands, karaoke nights and also listings for comedy and open mike nights.

If you’re hungry, its sister site, Food Trucks Fort Lauderdale, tells you where the food trucks are in Broward on any given day.

If you like South Florida sports, we’ve got a deal for you. ScoreBig offers discounted tickets to all kinds of pro and college sports, including 10% to 60% off tickets to  the Miami Heat, the Miami Dolphins, the University of Miami Hurricanes and other sporting events such as the Nascar Sprint Cup in Homestead. Offerings change daily, as deals sell out and new games are added. ScoreBig is not a ticket broker but a company that works directly with venues, teams and promoters to sell off excess tickets. It’s a little like Priceline for entertainment and sports tickets.

You can read about how it works on our new Cheap Sports Tickets page.

Fort Lauderdale on the Cheap has some exclusive special promo codes for additional discounts for new customers:

Graduation-hatsEven though I don’t have children, I think my age qualifies me to give some money advice to new graduates. Yes, I think they should save money and stay out of debt, but I also think they should learn to cook. You can find the rest of my advice at Living on the Cheap. Leave a comment with the best advice you have for new grads – and their parents who are seeing them move back home.
